In a 22 year career as a civil servant, Barbara worked at a variety of locations within the Employment Service, spending several years in the Training Agency. Involved with various government initiatives and programmes, working with companies and training suppliers as well as internal staff training activities.In 1990, Barbara resigned and joined the private sector to become a member of the Development team, charged with establishing the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training and Enterprise Council. By May 1993 she was promoted to Director of Enterprise and was responsible for all business support activities aimed at Start Up and Growing businesses. Barbara wrote the bid for the Job Creation Programme which received over £3 million government funding and she went on to implement and manage a successful delivery programme. In 1994 she became Deputy CEO of Business Link Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Along with managing a variety of business services she was responsible for the development of the local Investors In People programme and was appointed a Regional Panel member of the West Midlands Quality Centre. Barbara was also a Business Link Board Director.
Changes came again, with a move to being made the Area Director for Herefordshire and CEO of Business Link Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Re-organisation in 2000 brought Barbara to being appointed the Acting CEO for the Chamber of Commerce.
Barbara felt the need for a career change and took redundancy in March 2001 to become self employed as a Business and Management Advisor. She became engaged in a number of projects for clients, within the training, management, personnel and related areas. She also wrote a variety of proposals and was successful in attracting government and European funding to the area, for business support activities.
At this time Barbara completed a college course and achieved the AQA Certificate in Counselling Skills, to formalise and complement a number of the projects she had been involved in.
A change in direction again in April 2007 brought together the skills, knowledge and expertise with associates, to form the Event and Business Management company Concordia Services Ltd. Together they have planned and managed a range of successful projects for clients including Business Award dinners, conferences, corporate entertainment and workshops.
